Guidelines for use
Removing rust from metal objects.
Mix half a litre of water with two tablespoons of citric acid in a spray dispenser, and then spray the object before scrubbing it with a brush. Dry it thoroughly and it will soon be like new. You can also use citric acid to polish metals (but never aluminium).
Cleaning burnt saucepans and utensils.
Boil half a litre of water mixed with two tablespoons of citric acid in the pan to be cleaned, and then leave it to work. Before long, all traces of burn marks will have vanished.
Descaling domestic appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, kettles, tea pots and coffee makers).
To remove limescale and the traces left by detergents in your washing machine, we recommend adding one litre of water mixed with 150 grams (10 tablespoons) of citric acid in the detergent dispenser and then, with the washing machine empty, run a wash cycle at the maximum temperature.
To descale your dishwasher, pour 150 grams of citric acid (10 tablespoons) into the dishwasher. Then run the rapid programme and the job is done.
For teapots, coffee makers and kettles.
Fill the coffee maker with warm water and add 1/4 of cup of powdered citric acid. Leave to stand for one hour, and then empty the coffee maker and rinse it well.
You can also remove limescale from a kettle by simply adding 1 teaspoon of citric acid to 250 ml of water and leave it to work overnight.
Removing limescale from tiles, taps, bathroom screens and toilets.
Mix 150 grams of citric acid with one litre of very hot water and spray it over tiled surfaces, both in the kitchen or bathroom. Then, rinse the surface thoroughly and wipe with a cloth to ensure no traces of the acid remain. The same mixture can be used to descale bathroom screens and toilets.
Cleaning and disinfecting toilets
Sprinkle citric acid over the toilet and leave it to work 20 minutes. Then clean with a toilet brush and rinse with water. Citric acid is a highly effective descaler for removing the limescale that builds up in toilets due to their constant contact with water.
Removing tea and coffees stains from cups
Place them in a washing-up bowl, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of citric acid, and cover with boiling water. Leave it to work for 30 minutes. Rinse well.
Carpet Cleaning
Mix 100 grams of citric acid with a litre of water in a spray dispenser and spray onto the stain. Then rub the stain with a cloth and rinse.
